Based on the delightful and riotously funny short novel by Salman Rushdie, this magical fable for children of all ages tells the story of Haroun, son the the famous storyteller Rashid Kalifa who is known by his admirers as The Ocean of Notions. When Haroun's mother Soraya runs off with another man, Haroun asks the fateful question "What's the point of stories that aren't even true?" Immediately, Rashid loses his marvelous talent for spinning yarns. Haroun must save the day by traveling across land and space to Kahani, an unknown moon of planet earth. He arrives in the dark kingdom of Chup, ruled by the evil cultmaster Kattam-Shud. Kattam-Shud has decreed a vow of silence across his kingdom, and is poisoning the water in the Ocean of Streams of Story, the source of all tales, old and new. In the course of his fantastic journey, Haroun encounters a cranky Water Genie, a flying mechanical Hoopoe, a floating gardener, a captured princess, a Shadow warrior named Mudra, the mysterious Walrus, and many more marvelous and unforgettable characters. An inspiring and powerful production full of music, dance, color, and many surprises!
